We spent an amazing morning in the desert learning about and handling birds of prey: falcons, eagles, owls and hawks. Our guide Cesar was an actual falconer, and his respect and love for the birds, as well as his deep knowledge, made for a fascinating and enjoyable morning. Unlike the very brief falconry demonstration you get on the typical Dubai desert safari, this is an in-depth, small group (in our case, 2-person) experience, which gives you an opportunity to see and interact wit the birds up close. The setting, a grove of gaf trees in a desert reserve, is magical in itself--big trees, shade, and the sounds of bird calls all around you. This experience is not cheap, and requires commitment (early morning pickup and an hour-long drive), but for us it was absolutely worth it. We give this experience our highest recommendation.
