Peter started his Middle Eastern career in 2000 as a field guide at the luxurious Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa. It was here that he fell in love with the art of falconry. His passion for falconry grew all the time he spent with the birds and the next 2 years saw him obtain some of the basics needed for developing a relationship between man and bird.
Two and half years later he changed his career path slightly and branched out to do bird control, an environmentally friendly form of pest control, for a few years. It proved to be a success story and the foundations for Royal Shaheen Events had been laid.
In 2005 Royal Shaheen was born, the brainchild of a very young and enthusiastic falconer who chose to make falconry and the art thereof a lifelong career. Many lessons were to be learnt and still are, but nevertheless a brand new and exciting phenomenon had hit the UAE market.
A South African born falconer, Hendri studied Nature Conservation after finishing school and worked in the conservation and wildlife capture/relocation industry for a few years. This has lead him to the United Arab Emirates where he fell in love with falconry in 2010 as a field guide at Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa.
At the end of 2011 he joined Royal Shaheen as a full-time falconer, doing daily falconry demonstrations for foreign visitors in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. Despite his relatively short career as a falconer, he has proven to be naturally gifted.
Hendri has since developed his falconry knowledge tremendously and has trained a number of falcons and owls, modeling them into fit and reliable display birds. He is currently branching out into the broadwing realm by rehabilitating and training a young Greater Spotted Eagle.

I've always had a passion to work with animals which led me to complete a BSc in zoology, geography and tourism. After my studies I started off in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation which led me to birds of prey. I then started training a broad spectrum of birds and other animals but grew even more fond of raptors.
This is when I decided to take up the art of falconry in South Africa where I trained and hunted with my own hawks. I've done a variety of falcon shows, educational talks, rehabilitation, breeding and abatement with birds of prey.
